Bartercard UK – Cookie Policy

How we use cookies and similar technologies on our website and member portal

Effective date: 29 September 2026 | Last reviewed: 29 September 2026

This policy explains what cookies and similar technologies BARTER TRADERS LIMITED, trading as BARTERCARD UK ("we", "us" or "our"), use on https://www.bartercard.co.uk and the secure member portal. It explains what they do, when we ask for permission, and how you can change your choices. Our cookie banner and settings panel provide the controls described below.

1. Who we are

The organisation responsible for this website is BARTER TRADERS LIMITED, company number 11194577, trading as BARTERCARD UK. Our registered address is Unit 1, The Buffer Depot, Melbourne Place, Thirsk, YO7 1QY. Cookie and privacy enquiries can be sent to info@bartercard.co.uk or by telephone on 020 4586 7714. The website is www.bartercard.co.uk.

2. What cookies and similar technologies are

Cookies are small files saved by a website in your browser or device. Similar technologies include local storage, pixels, tags, scripts and tools that read information from your device. They can help a website work, remember a choice, measure how the service is used, or support advertising and content provided by other organisations.

3. How we use them

We group these technologies by purpose. Technologies that are not exempt from consent are switched off unless you actively choose to allow them. You can accept all, reject all, or choose by purpose in the cookie settings panel. Accepting optional cookies is not a condition of using the public website or applying for membership.

CategoryWhat it doesChoice
Strictly necessary Supports functions you request, such as secure sign-in, maintaining a session, routing traffic, security and remembering your cookie choices. Always active where needed to provide the service or meet a legal requirement.
Preferences and display Remembers choices such as language or display settings, where used. We will provide an easy, free way to object where the legal appearance exception applies; otherwise we ask first.
Statistics and performance Measures aggregate use of the website or portal so we can understand what works and improve it. We ask first unless a particular tool and configuration meet the narrow statutory statistical-purpose exception. If we rely on that exception, settings let you object at any time.
Advertising and social media Supports targeted advertising, campaign measurement, embedded social features or tracking by third parties. Off unless you give prior consent. A social link that simply takes you to another website may work without setting these technologies.

A technology may serve more than one purpose. If any purpose requires consent, we will not activate it until you have consented to that purpose. We do not treat analytics, advertising or social media technologies as strictly necessary merely because they are useful to us.

4. Your choices and how to change them

On your first visit, the cookie banner lets you accept all optional categories, reject all optional categories, or open settings to make a more specific choice. The accept and reject options are presented with equal prominence. Optional technologies are not activated before you make a choice, unless a specific legal exception applies.

You can revisit or withdraw your choice at any time by selecting "Cookie settings" in the footer of the website or member portal. Your settings take effect for future activity and, where technically possible, remove or disable optional cookies already stored. We will also pass withdrawals to relevant providers where required. Changing your browser settings can remove or block cookies, but may affect sign-in or other requested features.

We store a record of your cookie choices so we can apply them and demonstrate compliance. We will ask again when your choice expires under our settings, or when the purposes or technologies materially change. A reasonable review interval is used; a refusal will not trigger repeated prompts in the same session.

5. Third-party services

Some website features or measurement tools may be provided by other organisations. Before enabling optional third-party technologies, we will identify the provider and explain its purpose in the cookie settings panel and the cookie list. The provider may receive information such as an online identifier, device or browser details, pages viewed and interaction data. Its own privacy information explains how it uses data after it receives it.

Our existing website policy refers to Google Analytics and social media plug-ins. We will only name a service here or in the settings panel while it is actually in use, and will configure it to respect the choice required for its purpose. Embedded media or social plug-ins may contact the provider when enabled; where possible we use a privacy-preserving mode or require a separate action before loading them.

6. Cookie list

The precise cookie names and expiry periods depend on the services currently installed on the site and portal. The current, live list is shown in our cookie settings panel. It identifies the provider, purpose, category, cookie or storage name and duration for each technology we have detected. We review that list when we add, remove or materially change a tool.

The table below describes the information that the live list must provide. It is not a claim that every example is currently set on our site.

Information shownDetails
NameExact cookie or storage key, as detected.
ProviderFirst party (BARTERCARD UK) or named third party.
Purpose and category What the technology does and the category it belongs to.
DurationSession or the period until expiry/deletion.

7. Legal basis and privacy information

The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), as amended, govern storage of or access to information on your device. We obtain prior consent for technologies that require it. Certain narrow exceptions may apply, including technologies strictly necessary to provide a service you request and, if all statutory conditions are met, technologies used solely for aggregate statistics or adapting the service to your preferences. For the statistical and appearance exceptions, we provide clear information and a simple, free means to object.

Where cookie-related information is personal data, UK data protection law also applies. Our lawful basis, data uses, recipients, international transfers, retention and your data protection rights are explained in our Privacy Policy. Cookie consent is separate from accepting our terms or applying for membership.

8. Updates to this policy

We may update this policy if our website, services, technology or legal requirements change. The latest version will be published here with its review date. If a change means we need new consent, we will present the relevant choice before activating the new technology.

9. Contact us
